  • Notes
    • "Speck's" favorite story was how he met John Wayne while working inCalifornia. One of the things he enjoyed tremendously was makingpeople laugh with his jokes. Telling a joke for him was an art formof mastery. You could never not be entertained. He also was an avidbowler, loved his fishing, read detective magazines, and golf was apassion for him. After retiring from California to Arkansas, Joan andSpeck were regulars at the local VFW in Mountain Home for bingo everyweekend. There they visited with friends and acquaintences. Everyyear, Speck & Joan made the trip to Indiana to his high school classreunion, and to visit with his family living there. Their son Melvinhas lived near them always in California and Arkansas, and has beenvery close with his parents. Judy has been very close to her parentsas well even though she has lived in the next state of Texas for someyears. (niece-SLJuhl, compiler)
