- Aretas Akers-Douglas, 2nd Viscount Chilston was educated between 1890 and 1895 at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England .
He was with the Diplomatic Service in 1898. He was 3rd Secretary to Cairo in 1900. He was 2nd Secretary in 1905. He was Acting Agent and Consul to Sofia in 1907. He was Charg? d'Affairs to Montenegro between 1911 and 1914. He was 1st Secretary in 1912. He was Charg? d'Affairs to Romania in 1914. He was with the Foreign Office in 1915. He held the office of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Austria between 1921 and 1928. He held the office of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Russia between 1933 and 1938.
