Mrs. Priscilla Allen, 101 Years Old, Dies
      Asheville Citizen's Times on June 26, 1938.

Following an illness of three months, Mrs. Priscilla Allen, 101 years of age, died yesterday morning at the home of her son, Will Allen, near Barnardsville.

Funeral services will be held at the Rock View Baptist church, near Barnardsville. The Rev. W. L. Edwards and the Rev. George Hensley officiated. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers included: James Young, Ray Anders, Edd Boone, Louis Young, Emmitt Wright and Natt Banks, grandsons of Mrs. Allen.

Surviving Mrs. Allen are four daughters, Mrs. L. W. Young, of Horseshoe, Mrs. Sallie Bishop, of Roanoke, Va., Mrs. Geneva Riddle of Horseshoe, and Mrs. John Banks of Dillingham; three sons, J. F. Anders of Lenoir by a previous marriage, Will Allen, of Barnardsville and S. M. Allen of Marshall; one brother, Norn Allen and number of grand-children, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Allen was a native of Yancey county, and had lived in the Ivy and Barnardsville sections most of her life. When she was born, the United States army was combing this section for Cherokee Indians to take to Oklahoma. The Mexican War was fought when she was 10 years old. She lived through the War between the States, the Spanish American War and the World War. She also recalled Indian skirmished and the days when Jesse James and his band of outlaws roamed the west.

West funeral home, Weaverville is in charge of arrangements.
Note 1- Priscilla's obituary indicated she was buried in the church cemetery, but that is not correct. She is buried in the Allen Cemetery located behind the Burleson Cemetery in Barnardsville, NC.
Note 2- At the time of her death Priscilla was listed on her death certificate and obituary as being 101. In the 1860 Census she was listed as 11 years old under her parents, James and Rachel Riddle Allen. By census records she was probably closer to 90.
Note 3 - Mrs.? According to her death certificate and family information she was single. [2]
