- Maria H. Alford (de Moor),of Centerville, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the age of 76. She is survived by her loving husband, Charles. Daughter: Antonia "Tonnie" Baser-Mac Donald and her children, Jordan Baser, Justin Baser and Morgan Mac Donald. Daughter: Lisha Michael, her husband John, and their children Carlye Rausch (Andrew) and Drew Michael. Her adoptive children and their families: Shawn Power (Heather) children, Tristan Power and Alycia Alford. And Antonia Hines (Codi) children, Derrick Taylor Jr. and Nasir Moore.
A native of Amsterdam, Netherlands, Maria lived life to it's fullest and dedicated her life to helping others and she had great expectations of everyone she met. If you've lived in the Dayton area there is probably something Maria has done that, in some way, affected you. She was passionate about children. She organized a Woman's Auxiliary for the children at Stillwater Hospital. She was active in TWIGs of Dayton, focusing on underprivileged children.
She loved the Girl Scouts! Encouraging young girls and laying the groundwork to becoming strong women.
As a master of cosmetology, she was always the "trendsetter". Look at your hands, do you have some kind of nail enhancement? Look in the mirror, do you have permanent make-up or a wig prosthetic, for either enhancement or because you suffer from alopecia or hair loss from cancer? Remember Maria because she learned these techniques and was one of the first to bring them to this area. She was involved with the "Look Good, Feel Better" organization, giving people strength in their beauty. She would also invited local orphanages to bring the children to her salon, Park Avenue Salon in Oakwood, for free haircuts.
