"The following heretofore unavailable facts show a connection betweenthis Duncan and John MacLaren, and the lands described;
Lands had been disponed to Duncan McLaren by John MacLaren in aDisposition dated 14 May 1736, written by Thomas Ripas, notary public.This Disposition was also presented, although its contents weren'trecorded in the Register. Duncan McLaren was to pay the Duke of AthollL82/13/4d at Martinmas annually. He was then given sasine and the eventwas witnessed by John McLaren and Malcolm McLaren in Innernenty.
On 28 October 1738, James Scott in Kincraigie acted as attorney forDuncan MacLaren, portioner of Western Innernenty, presenting a Charter ofResignation and a precept of sasine from the Duke of Atholl in favour ofDuncan McLaren granting to him and his heirs in feu farm the just andequal half of the town and lands of Wester Innernenty including half ofthe two and half merk lands, Wester Innernenty between it, and EasterInnernenty, burn Blair-fearnach which runs between Easter and WesterBlairfearnach and from the march dyke to top of Craigvrech and from thetop of Craigvrech to the top of Strobvrech and from the top of Stobvrechto the top of Sliguanin. Grazings were the arable ground and meadowswhich had been divided by march stones and balks, these boundaries werethen described in detail. A Duncan McLaren was portioner of WesterInvernenty which means he already owned part of the lands, presumably theother half.
In 1736, John McLaren disponed his half to Duncan, so in 1738, Duncanbecame the owner of the whole of Wester Invernenty!
[In Margaret MacLaren's, "The MacLaren's, A History of Clan Labhran" shementions that on July 8th, 1743, Donald MacLaren of East Invernenty andDuncan of West Invernenty together gave a bond for #1300 Scots toAlexander Campbell of Corriecarnaig (Clan Campbell II, p.39). Thisdoesn't mean both were drovers, but it's obvious they may have beenclosely related. Margaret's only statement with regards to Duncan wasthat he had only one child, a daughter, but is it completely accuratesince she's the grandmother of the current Chief?]"
