- "When on a visit at Lord Norrey's seat at Oxfordshire, about 1605, losthis eye, in fencing with one John Turner, a master of the science ofdefence, which so enraged His Lordship against Turner that, after layingseveral plans for that persons destruction, he had him assassinated sevenyears afterwards, by one Carlyle, who killed him by a pistol shot; forwhich foul deed the assassin and his accomplice were convicted andexecuted, and Lord Sanquhar, afterwards surrendering, met a similar fate,being hanged by a silken rope upon a gibbet erected in Great Palace Yard,before the gate of Westminster Hall , 29 June 1612..."
