  • Notes
    • Born and educated in Launceston, he travelled to England where he received training from Collard & Collard the famed pianoforte manufacturers. On his return he was employed by Arthur Munnew at his music warehouse and formed a partnership with him eventually taking over the business in 1907, changing the name from Munnew and Findlay to Findlays Pty Ltd. He then expanded into the wireless business and set up 7LA, the first radio station in Launceston, which exists to this day. Percy was interested in orchestral and band music, and was once a cornet player in the City Band. A staunch Anglican, he took part in the St John's Sunday school and children's festival work. For 25 years he was prominent in St Aiden's Church choir.
He had been a member of the Lodge of Hope, was a keen bowler and follower of football and cricket. He visited his orchard at Hillwood every weekend. Percy married Alice Jones, the daughter of Thomas Jones of 'Mona', Frederick Street, Launceston, on 17 April 1889. They had nine children. Percy died 6 Jun 1945 aged 78, his business having spread across the State. Alice died on 26 May 1950 aged 84.
