- Alfred Douglass departed England in 1834, aged 14 and travelled by himself on the barque "Wave" (Capt. Goldsmith) departed London 9 Nov 1834 and arrived in Hobart 9 March 1835. Alfred resided with half-brother Charles Thomas "Woolly" SMITH (d.1856- Hobart, Tasmania) and family in Hobart working in CT Smith's wool broking for AUPounds 40/year for about 8 years. He then moved to Geelong in Victoria where he set up his own wool broking and processing firm. He is credited with the first wool sales in Victoria's history.
