Isaac William Hayne served as Attorney General of South Carolina from
1848 until 1868. In January of 1861, he was sent by Governor Pickens as
Special Envoy to President Buchanan to negotiate the question of Fort
Sumter and "to effect if possible an amicable and peaceful transfer of
the fort". Obviously, he was less than successful. He also was the
person who read the Order of Secession at the Secession convention in

Isaac married Alicia Paulina Shubrick Trapier on 1 May 1834 in Charleston, South Carolina (her mother's house on Short Street). Alicia (daughter of Paul Trapier and Sarah Alicia Shubrick) was born on 18 Feb 1817 in South Carolina, USA; died on 7 Jun 1885 in South Carolina, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Alicia Paulina Shubrick Trapier was a descendant of old Huguenot
families and of Charleston's most famous naval families, the Shubricks.
Isaac and Paulina produced eleven children, including our ancestor,
Theodore Brevard Hayne. Both of them are buried in Magnolia Cemetary in
Charleston.

William Edward Hayne was not quite five when his father was executed,
but remembered visiting him on his last night. William was elected
Comptroller of South Carolina in 1839. He married Eloisa Davidson
Brevard, known as a spectacular beauty, in 1806. They had six children,
including our ancestor Isaac William, before her death in 1820. William
then married his cousin, Elizabeth Perroneau Hayne, and had eight more
children. The South Carolina Gazette of 20 July, 1765 carried a report of
William and Eloisa's marriage, and Salley's "Marriage Notices" also
confirms the date.

William married Eloisa Davidson Brevard on 28 Jan 1806. Eloisa (daughter of Alexander Brevard and Rebecca Davidson) was born on 30 Jun 1785 in Lincoln County, North Carolina; died on 27 Aug 1820. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Eloisa Davidson Brevard was known as a beauty, and was descended from
well-known North Carolina families:, Brevard, Davidson, and Bulline.

Paul Trapier was educated at Cambridge, and raised rice at Windsor until
1812, at which time he sold the plantation to his uncle Benjamin Trapier
to pay off the debts of Thomas Shubrick, his wife's grandfather. They
moved to Belvedere, Alicia's father's house on the Cooper River.

Paul married Sarah Alicia Shubrick on 7 Jan 1802. Sarah (daughter of Thomas Shubrick and Mary Branford) was born on 2 Jan 1779 in South Carolina, USA; died after 1824 in South Carolina, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Isaac Hayne served as an officer in the Colleton Regiment of SC Militia.
He was elected to the South Carolina Assembly in 1777, 1779, and 1780.
When Charleston fell to the British, Isaac Hayne visited the city for
medicine when his wife and several children had smallpox. He was coerced
into signing a parole, in which he agreed not to bear arms against the
British, in order to be permitted to return to his family. He was later
captured under arms and hanged. "The Execution of Isaac Hayne", by David
K. Bowen from Sandlapper Press, and "The Execution of Colonel Isaac
Hayne" by Robert Y. Hayne in Southern Review I (1828) pp 75-82 address
this incident. Isaac Hayne is buried near the site of his home, Hayne
Hall, just off highway 63 between Jacksonborough and Walterboro. There is
a sign on the highway and a monument at the grave.

Isaac married Elizabeth Hutson on 18 Jul 1765 in Charles Town, South Carolina. Elizabeth (daughter of William Hutson and Mary Woodward) was born on 11 Jan 1746 in McPhersonville, South Carolina; died in Aug 1780 in Jacksonborough, South Carolina. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Elizabeth Hutson was the great-grandaughter of Henry Woodward, the first
white settler of South Carolina. Henry's son Richard married Sarah
Stanyarne. Their daughter Mary married William Hutson. Mary and William
Hutson were the parents of Elizabeth Hutson.

Captain Alexander Brevard is buried at Leeper's Creek, North Carolina. He
served as a Captain of Militia from Iredell County, North Carolina during
the Revolutionary War.

Alexander married Rebecca Davidson on 27 Apr 1784 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Rebecca (daughter of John Davidson and Violet Winslow Wilson) was born on 20 Mar 1762 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina; died on 24 Nov 1824 in Lincoln County, North Carolina. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Paul was educated at Eton and St. John's, Cambridge. He served as a
Captain in the Georgetown Artillery, and was scheduled to sign the
Declaration of Independance, but got sick

Paul married Elizabeth Foisson on 19 Nov 1771 in Santee, South Carolina. Elizabeth (daughter of Elias Foisson and Mary LaRoche) was born in 1757 in South Carolina, USA; died on 1 Aug 1836 in South Carolina, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Trapier Hayne:
"Thomas Shubrick was commissioned by Congress, 1778, in the 5th S.C.
Regiment of the United States, raised for the defense of American
Liberty. He was presented with a medal by congress, with its thanks for
his gallantry in the Battle of Eutaw Springs. The medal is in the
possession of the family of Mrs Geo. Clymer, of Washington, DC. He died
at the age of 54 in consequences of the hardships which his devotion to
his country had occasioned.
From an old family paper, he attained the rank of "Major", from
another, the rank of "Colonel". He was Commissioner of Prisoners after
the capitulation of Charleston, SC, and relieved a number of his
Bretheren of the Army. (see Moultrie's Revolution in the Carolinas.)

He served as a Captain in the 2nd South Carolina Regiment; as Brigade
Major to General Howe from May 1777 to September 1778; and as
Aide-de-Camp to General Greene in 1781. He was referred to as Colonel in
the award presentation.

Thomas married Mary Branford on 9 Apr 1778. Mary (daughter of Ezekial Branford and Alice Bulline) was born about 1759; died in 1832. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
