[On 20.05.1941 Col. Maclaren was in charge of a demonstration in the moors at Brendon Common, being watched by senior officers of the services and members of the government. Something went terribly wrong and realising that the weapon was about to explode near the watchers Col. Maclaren threw himself on it and was killed instantly, but saved the lives of all those around.
